Treatment involves a combination of steps. One of the most important is to better understand the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours involved in the maintenance of the difficulty. Therapy usually also involves addressing attentional processes as well as achieving better control of the emotional responses.
It is hard to say how long treatment may last. Some individuals are already helped a lot by a single session. It is more common to have somewhere between 2-6 sessions to see some benefit.
